Renee - Good job picking out some important players in the 1920s Jazz Age! Riddle me this….. how were Louis and Duke important to Americans?
DeleteLouis Armstrong was the first person to start scatting, and he was influential on other people with the way he made his songs, and how he was really good playing the trumpet. Duke Ellington was important because everyone liked the way he was original with his music.
DeleteB-Every one had money at the time and when the war destroyed almost everything they turned to jazz. When jazz was around everyone did crazy things like seeing how long they can sit on a flag pole, and hanging on the wing of a plane until it lands.

DeleteRemember to answer the questions
Louis armstrong was one of the major figures of jazz. Louis Armstrong was important to the jazz world because he climbed up the ladder and became one of the best and in his career he had made the swing era
DeleteB-My Response: The Jazz Age was important because it not only changed music but also changed the lifestyles of many. Duke Ellington, Art Tatum, Fletcher Henderson, Louis Armstrong, and more were important figures during the jazz age. https://sites.google.com/site/historyfordummies2/unit-7/the-roaring-20-s-the-jazz-age

A- Normalcy means that life would go back to normal. An American who wants to return to normalcy could start being for leisure, going on vacations, or even just going back to work.
ReplyDeleteMadison - Why is returning to normal important ? .. especially after war
DeleteIts important to return to normal especially after war because no one wants to think about all the bloodshed during the war. And they just want to spend time with their loved ones who return home from the war.
DeleteB. Some call the Roaring 20s the 'Jazz Age'. Why was Jazz an important aspect of American History? Who were some important figures during the 'Jazz Age'?
DeleteThe jazz age was an important aspect of american history b/c of the cultural life it inspired to young black and white americans growing up in the 1920's. It also helped people affected by the war to cope with it and helped them return back to normal after the war. Some famous black artists of the time were Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie.
C - some of the products that was made was good for the economy because people could use it daily, but most of it was bad. their was probably no need for most of the things bought. since it was after the war people thought they were dominant so they just did what they wanted.
ReplyDeleteA - My response is that the term "normalcy" was actually a slogan used in Mr. Hardings campaign for presidency, meaning that we should return to our state of isolationism after being involved in WW1, how one might move forward with this idea would be as stated before returning to the policy of isolationism according to Mr. Harding this was the only way, to maintain Democracy through peace and negotiations rather than war-Nick Hoopes
ReplyDeleteNick,
DeleteGreat response! Check out some of Mark Twain's quotes on isolationism… pretty interesting stuff
B. Jazz was an important aspect of American history because it played a big part in cultural changes during the 20s. Jazz has had an influence on pop music since it had begun. Some important figures during the 'Jazz Age' were Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie.

A- After WWI Americans wanted to return to 'normalcy', this meant the US wanted return to its historic policy of isolation from Europe. They made commercial treaties but no defensive alliances. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090222134725AA75yxL
ReplyDeleteTaylor,
DeleteWhy was this important to Americans? Is isolationism something that you agree with? No right/wrong answer, just asking…
I agree with isolationism
DeleteB.) Jazz is an important part of American History due to its widespread affect of attracting people of all races, in-turn making a melting pot of musical prodigies. Jazz gave African Americans the chance to shine and the respect and the recognition they deserved. African American composers; such as Duke Ellington Louis Armstrong and Count Basie gave Caucasian men such as, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodmen their boost into music.
ReplyDeleteB: Jazz was an important aspect of American history because this marked one of the first beginnings independent record companies, usually smaller operations that were not afraid of taking a chance in the music industry and just putting their name out to public eye. Which this was much easier to accomplish due to the radio. When the Great Depression struck, radio went from being an expensive toy for the rich to one of the most important aspects of American culture. This made it much easier for music to be heard and gave people something to turn to when they were feeling down due to the economic crisis, Everyone was listening to jazz. Although jazz was becoming more recognized, the economic free-fall deteriorated the industry entirely. Small independent music companies would not emerge till a bit after the 1930's. Some "famous" jazz entertainers could be Django Reinhardt, Mamie Smith, the Mills brothers, and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings. http://www.jazzstandards.com/history/history-2.htm
ReplyDeleteGood reply Zane!
DeleteB- Because this was the time where Jazz and dance grew popular all over the nation. One of the most famous and important people from this era was Louis Armstrong. He was so important because the way he played his trumpet was extraordinary and hee was one of the greatest soloist in his time. Another big thing he did was create a new style of singing called "scat"

C; American consumerism could be considered a good thing and a bad thing. It could be taken as a good thing because it begins to move new good around the globe possible spreading culture, language, and food. It could also be considered a bad thing due to taking advantage of the good and possibly running out of that particular resource or good.
ReplyDeleteA. After WWI there was a need to return to 'normalcy' for Americans. What could that possibly mean? What are some things that an American would do to move forward?
ReplyDeleteWarren G. Harding won the election of 1920 by a landslide on the promise of a “return to normalcy”—which, for Republicans in the 1920s, meant a return to big business. So after being involved in WW1, The US wanted to return to being isolated from Europe. They had commercial treaties but no defensive alliances.
Something that an american could do to move forward would be to pick up where they left off and keep at it, not go back and not stop for anything.

B- Jazz changed music and it changed the lives of those who took part in the jazz life. Jazz is just more than music to most people, it's more than music than a way of life.

Another important aspect of the 'Jazz Age' to consider is how "American" it was in its creation. Kansas City was a huge Jazz Hub.

B- Social culture was non existent due to war. i feel like now that the war is over it is a new build up of the social life. the generation was turning alternative and Jazz was one of the big buildups. everyone thought that they had money and they were all scared for Wall Street to crash. Some of the people were enraged at the new dances and type of music. Some of the most famous people of the Jazz age were Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, and Benny Goodman.
ReplyDeleteB. jazz music is the platform of rhythmic music and started the beginning of classic music today.

- maria cangelosi
Maria,
DeleteThink about how important, if at all, Jazz music was to American citizens. Why was it important?
C- "Buy now or pay later" became the credo of many middle class Americans of the Roaring 20s For the single-income family, all these new conveniences were impossible to afford at once. But retailers wanted the consumer to have it all. Big businesses opened up generous LINES OF CREDIT for those who could not pay up front but could demonstrate the ability to pay in the future. Similar INSTALLMENT PLANS were offered to buyers who could not afford the lump sum, but could afford "12 easy payments."
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ushistory.org/us/46f.asp
What are some examples of installment plans that are used today?
DeleteIf students want to go to college and instead of paying it all off you pay little by little every once in a while so stay balanced.
DeleteB - Jazz in the 20s was the result of a melting pot of both black music, spirituals, blues gospel, white music marshes, dances like cacewalk and music from the westindies. The most famous jazzmen were Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Benny Goodman.

Good Sam! Answer me this….. you named a few very influential jazz musicians, but how did they impact Americans?
Deleteb.Jazz was important to the 1920's because of world war 1 it gave people chances to do fun things. Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman were important performers because they put their heart and soul into the music that they loved.

Some great musicians were Leonard Bernstein, Duke Ellington Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman.

A- Returning to 'normalcy' meant that all the soldiers could go back to their families having a better life than being in the war. Since the war was so stressful for the people, the government and the public wanted to create a different image of life. Activities like dancing and competitions created a more "happy" time than having memories of the war everywhere people went.
ReplyDeleteJamien,
DeleteGreat response! A return to 'normalcy' would be a tough, yet important thing to do
Thank you and yes it is tough because of how World War 1 may have effected many peoples' thoughts on war, especially the soldiers. 'Normalcy' was like an idea of relaxing on a beach, instead of thinking of all the conflict the war had caused.
DeleteC. consumerism was bad for the economy because the Installment plans tricked people out of their money, making them think they were paying more when they really were probably paying more money then the item was worth.
ReplyDeleteC - Credit was rather bad for the economy because people were loosing money fast, and going into debt due to the fact that no one worried about how much they'd have to pay off once their bill was due. Banks would make loans that no one could pay off, which would lead to bankruptcy. Shopping malls were put out of business because they were replaced by department stores. People would afford things that they usually wouldn't be able to without credit. Banks would loan people money, and those people would throw it in the rather good stock market. Eventually, when the economy took a turn, the market crashed and people lost billions of dollars; creating a depression. Banks would start repossessing things, leaving people broke and homeless. Credit was a major cause in the great depression.
ReplyDeletehttp://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_did_credit_cause_problems_for_people_in_the_1920's?#slide=1
DeleteC- American consumerism was bad for the economy because people abused the powers of credit cards. This was a problem because when they never paid it off it hurt a lot of the people working in credit card companies who had to make a living off of trusting people to pay. This was a big problem to people who needed the money to pay so it made american consumerism a bad thing for the economy.

B- In 1920's America ,known as the Jazz Age,everybody seemed to have money. The nightmare that was the Wall Street Crash of October 1929, was inconceivable right up until it happened. The 1920’s saw a break with the traditional set-up in America. The Great War had destroyed old perceived social conventions and new ones developed.

Polly,
DeleteMake sure you are answering the question and not straying from it. How was the 'Jazz Age' truly "American"?
the jazz age was born in New Orleans . at first it was a mixture of blues and marching band music. In New York the Jazz Age was a time where hardly anybody worried about money. and in the 20s money was hard to come bye it made the people feel better about lower class
DeleteB-For many African Americans it was a way to feel important and to not feel like a complete outsider. They would usually play outside of places where the could not stay or be considered a guest. Jazz was a very important part of not only changing the culture but also changing the outlook on music and peoples lives.

Duke Ellington was a jazz musician, but didn't call his music "jazz" he called it "American Music." Ever since he passed his music has become a sensation and an influence for many other jazz artists.

Good point Iziah! I think Jazz would definitely make people happier!
DeleteB - Jazz was an important aspect in the 20's because it wasnt known as just music, but also a factor in peoples everyday life. Jazz has influenced music and peoples mood since it has began. It brought music together as a whole. It was a way of being recognized in this time. Some important figures during this time were Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and many more playing a role during this time, the time of the 'Jazz Age'.
ReplyDeleteB- Jazz was a form of music that created new dances in the 20s, and both outraged the older generations, and excited the younger generations. the Catholic telegraph stated, "The music is sensuous, the female is only half dressed and the motions may not be described in a family newspaper. Suffice it to say that there are certain houses appropriate for such dances but these houses have been closed by law." in it's outrage. important people in the jazz age were Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, and Benny Goodman.

B) In the 1920's African-Americans moved over to places like Chicago and New York for better employment. When they got to their destinations they brought their culture with them. Throughout the 1920's people owned pianos, listened to different types of records and played sheet music. The most famous jazz player is Louis Armstrong.

They didnt want anything to do with the old world and wanted to restart new with a new world and isolationism. They were having problems with money and all worried about taxes that was a money problem.
ReplyDeleteThe 1920s were referred to the jazz age because, it was very influential music and most be loved it. The 1920s could be called the golden age because the nations wealth more than doubled. One major figure was John Coltrane, he was a really good jazz player, and influenced many young people to get in the jazz business.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.history.com/topics/roaring-twenties
it was bad for the economy because when the grate depression came noone had money to pay for there monthly payment
ReplyDeleteSome call the Roaring 20s the 'Jazz Age'. Why was Jazz an important aspect of American History? Who were some important figures during the 'Jazz Age'? The Jazz Age glorified city life. Americans -- including many African American sharecroppers from the South -- were leaving their farms in record numbers to live and work in places like Chicago and New York City. F. Scott Fitzgerald called it a time when "the parties were bigger, the pace was faster, the buildings were higher, the morals looser."
ReplyDeleteLouis Armstrong and Duke Ellington made a first recording.

B] I think Jazz got so important because people just got through war and they wanted to have fun, forget about all their worries and just have a good time. Music brings people together, so everyone could just have a good time together. It was also more then a hobby! People started making it their jobs and got money through it.Some famous Jazz musicians were Louis Armstrong, and Benny Goodman.
ReplyDeleteAmerican consumerism was booming in the 1920s. For the first time, Americans were buying goods on credit, using installment plans (definition is in the powerpoint on blackboard), and purchasing domestic products. Was American consumerism good or bad for the economy? Justify your answer.
ReplyDeleteThe American consumerism was bad because since they didn't have a credit score back then anyone could get a credit card. Some people who had a credit card the had lots and lots of money ended up wasting keeping the money. Everyone else barely had any money because the rich people was keeping all of the money. So, basically the poeple abused the rights to have a credit card.
I think jazz was so important because it helped get through war, & it was fun. People enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteB. jazz brought about a hope towards americans in the 20s the music was upbeat and talked about happy things. Most americans listened to it because it brought them happy thoughts. The thoughts they receieved would make them look forward to seeing a better country. Jimmy Blanton was one who made tons of music in this time period.
